1. Involve them in your holiday activities, wrapping gifts, helping with decorations, preparing meals.
2. If you are far from them, make sure family members phone them throughout the holiday season, or arrange for them to spend time with loved ones instead of being alone.
3. Visit them frequently during this time to brighten their spirits. If they like seasonal music, bring a collection of their favorites.
4. If they are able, encourage them to do volunteer work during the holidays, delivering mobile meals to shut ins, bringing gifts or entertainment to nursing homes residents, helping out with holiday craft projects, to name a few possibilities.
5. Take them out to a nice restaurant to celebrate the season in a special way.
6. Make yourself available for them to phone or talk to in the event they experience some holiday blues.
