Do Senior’s Need Their Own Texting Code?
Since more and more Seniors are texting and tweeting these days, there appears to be a need for a STC (Senior Texting Code). Please pass this on to your children and grandchildren so they can understand your texts.

Help Wanted: True Elder Statesmen
Economic times are hard and our leaders seem to be running out of ideas to fix it. Maybe they should turn to the wisdom of our seniors to look for answers in how to right our country. In 2009, the St Petersburg Times published this article where they asked people how they would fix the economy. Among the answers was this idea from senior David Otterson in Largo:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force … pay them $1 million a piece severance with stipulations. They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings — unemployment fixed. They buy new American cars. Forty million cars ordered — auto industry fixed. They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage — housing crisis fixed.
Is this a good idea? Would you retire early under those conditions? If you are a senior, tell us what you would do to fix the economy and steer the country back in the right direction.
Robber Messes With The Wrong Senior
A robber messed with the wrong man in Florida on Thursday night. 63-year-old, 5-foot-7 Fred Kemp used a foot sweep and a rear naked choke to disarm a robber who pointed a gun at Kemp and his wife.

New Year, New You
As we start a new year, people of all ages are making resolutions to stay fit, stay healthy, eat right and stay young. Sometimes as seniors we can start to give up on staying young, but then comes along some friends who remind us that age is in the mind and that if we take care of ourselves, there is nothing we can’t do.
So is the lesson that we learned last night from Bev (age 83) and Hap (age 68) of Los Angeles, California, contestants on Paula Abdul’s new dance competition Live to Dance.
Watch these two youngsters cut a rug and dance their way into 2011.
What are some of the ways you plan to stay young in 2011? Share them with us in the comments!

You’re Only as Old as You Feel…
… and this senior couple prove it. Check out this video of them tearing up the keys at the Mayo Clinic where they put on an impromptu performance. Pay attention to their chemistry as they woo the crowd, it’s the result of 62 years of marriage. He’s 90 years old but you wouldn’t know it. She… well, you never ask a woman her age, even if she’s beyond the age of caring.
Or maybe it’s the piano that keeps them young…

Stephen Colbert’s Senior Moment
Every once in awhile it pays to laugh at yourself. In this video from August 2010, Stephen Colbert pokes fun at seniors and our issues. Of course, even when we’re being laughed at, seniors manage to steal the show. Wait until the end of the video when Doris outshines Colbert and steals the funny!

Laughter – The Best Medicine
As a friend of the couple who founded Home Instead Senior Care, Mary Maxwell was asked to give the invocation at the company’s 2009 Convention. Initially it seemed like a normal prayer, but it soon took a very funny turn. Watch the video here.

Senior Friendly Volunteer Training
The Guilford County Senior Services Roundtable is always looking for ways to make our region more senior friendly. One way in which we do that is through regular volunteer training and education. This valuable training is always informative and rewarding but it can also be fun and even a little bit silly looking. Take a look for yourself in these pictures from our July 2010 Volunteer Training!
